I was gonna remain silent about all the shenanigans going on Saturday night, but I've had some time to think about it and decided what good would that do? I talked about the horseplay and Tom-foolery going on at the front of the SuperPro lanes and basically got responses such as..."what can you do?" And "this happens every year."
Well, I CALL FOUL!!! Is this type of activity widely accepted in our sport? All parties involved have raced long enough to know better! I guess integrity and character can be bought. Unless I was mistaken, I believe we were at a racetrack where competitors are suppose to RACE! What about the spirit of competition? How can someone come to a racetrack where competitors RACE with intentions NOT TO RACE? Whether I was involved in a points race or not, it was disturbing to me to watch people I have considered "racers" for years choose "not to race"! If you are truly a RACER, and claim to be a RACER, YOU RACE!!! Whoever pulls in the lanes next to you is your competition for that round, friend, enemy, like, dislike, whatever...YOU RACE!!! I could go on and on but I believe I have made my point clear! I will not have respect for those who disrespect our sport and choose not to compete when that's what we RACERS go to the track to do! I made it very clear Saturday that I am a RACER! I would never ask someone to "take a dive" , "lay down", "throw a round" whatever you wanna call it, for me nor would I allow someone to do that even if they offer!!! A championship, event win, round win is temporary. Character and how you conduct yourself follows you the rest of your life! Thanks to all those who lined up next to me Saturday Night and RACED!!! That's what we all, or most of us, met at the track to do.
