Contrary to popular opinion, I don't feel that Outlaw 8.5 is by any means a "entry level" class to heads up racing. One should not have to have sponsors just to get started. All 8.5 Outlaw is, is True Street on a smaller tire! I would love to come out and race and I know alot of other people who would too; but what's the point? I'm talking real street driven cars. 7.50 to 6.80 range? Don't get me wrong getting all that power to hook on an 8.5 tire is very impressive, but with an anything goes as long as you make weight policy - what's left for the average guy or gal who want's to enter heads up racing? How bout a "Wild Street" format??? ;D

I guess that answers my question. Your idea sounds great.

Thats sounds good to me too. I could leave the NOS bottles home and run 6.90's all night on 8.5's. Guys I don't have that much $$ in my car or set up and I don't spray that much either. Its as close to REAL street and entry class as your goning to get. Some of the other 8.5 guys would like to change the rules to stop faster high $$ cars from comming in the 8.5 class.

Not that much ($$$) to one is a whole lot to someone else - Money is relative. I am not niave enough realize that someone is always going to be faster(that's racing) and that going fast costs money. There is always going to be someone with more resources. Your signature also lists 3 sponsors??? Which is my point exactly and you really don't see many street cars that run low 6's or high 5's. All I'm saying is lets have a set of ground rules from which to build on, Finding ways to make your car top in the field while staying in the rules is what heads up racing is all about. I'm not trying to slam anybody here. I ran in one event this year and had a ball. Everybody I met was very nice and like I said I really admire alot of you guys. I just wish that there was a place for street driven cars - where they could be competitive. Maybe I just have a problem with calling it "Entry Street"

I'm not really debating the definition of a "street driven" car. Ken suggested an 6.0 cap. I think that is a killer idea. What about a wild street format. 30 street driven miles followed by 3 back to back passes - round robin - best average wins?

Karl. My 3 sponsors are all friends that have business. They help me and I help them. Freshkote painting is a friend that I help on his PRO Super Street car. Digital Racecraft is a photo girl that takes pics of both cars. NX (John Phillips) has helped me. I'll tell you no big $$$ are in my sponsorships. A couple of the Entry Street guys talked in the first of the season and agreed that Entry didn't sound good. We kind of made it Outlaw 8.5. I don't know about a 30 mile cruz. The reason I came to OVOS is that its 1 1/2 hour drive also its on day event.

I've run the "30-mile drive and 3 averaged back-to-back runs" format before and I hated it. It wasn't heads-up, hot lapping the car is stupid and it just wasn't any fun. The 30 mile drive was fine, but took a little too much time. That is supposed to be the part that tests streetability, so why hot lap the cars? What does that prove? By the time I got out of the car, out of my jacket and helmet and got the fan and water pump running, it was time to buckle up again. This was a PRO race.
Slowing the class down would be great. I really don't want to have to spend the money it takes to compete now. Finding how to do it is the hard part. One set of rules will be great for some, but will make some cars illegal and vice-versa.

I'd just like to say hello and that The talk on this board is great! But I'd like to chime in on this topic. for one, ANY HEADS UP CLASS IS NOT ENTRY LEVEL! it takes money to go fast!. for one a buddy and I teamed up to compete in a class that's close to home "Outlaw Ez-Street" wich is close to OSCA's true street but its on D.O.T's. we were at ET-dragway last weekend testing and went 5.50's on Drag radials. and that's with no sponsors but @ss pocket investments "if you know what I mean". now I've seen allot of people cry'n about that word "entry" your 8.5 class is entry "if you ask me" but like every other class it a money game hint "Outlaw 8.5" now if you want try a slow that class downmake them run on the 235/50/15 BF Drag Radial. that will slow them down for now but just like every other class you can expect it to speed back up atleast 1 tenth a year as people get smarter. when we started running Ez-Street "6years ago" a guy with a car running 6.20's to 6.10's was competitive. Now were going 5.30's and 40's on D.O.T's Not Slicks. So not to step on any one's toes but when you run Heads up that's the way it will always be if you can compete start bracket racing that's a type of racing that money dose not have an affect on. thats the way it will alway be. But on a Good note. We have been Kicking the idea about coming, putting on a set of 8.5's and running with you guys. we should be able to go 60's or 70's on that tire. Thank got for the MSD DIGITAL7! LoL see you guys later Shannon *Rocket Science Performance*

Shannon, let me get this straight. Your car runs 5.50's on drag radials(MT of course). You want to drive from Illinois to run the 8.5 class and have a chance at winning $200. Yet our fastest true street cars run 5.40's on slicks and races for $1000. Wouldn't common sense say put a slick on your car and win more money. Maybe i'm missing something here.

Hey, We like to mix it up some times. we dont race for the money. never have! its all about how fast we can run on the smallest tire. + we look to race every week. and we only have a ez-street race once a month. and yes we ran that fast we stood the car up twice and finaly broke some stuff! d**n M/T. were fixing the car as we speak. LoL
